LAB STAFF POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
Job Descriptions
Lab staffs are expected to be professional in appearance and action. Lab staffs provide support assistance for students and faculty and must, therefore, maintain order, an effective learning environment, and keep the work area, electronic equipment, computers, etc., running cleanly and efficiently.
Responsibilities
Lab staff must log in at arrival and log off at departure into the computer sign-in to keep track of their work hours. Time cards are to be completed through web Advisor, sign and submit them electronically every paid period to the lab directors or supervisors.
1. Lab Assistants are responsible for helping students not only with computers but with course related questions. (Tutoring)
2. After determination of worker availability for the semester, work schedules are set by the lab supervisors and must be adhered to.
3. Time cards must be submitted electronically by the date/time required or the time card will be held over until the next pay period.
*Falsifying a time sheet is grounds for dimissal..
4. Staff must give at least two (2) days notice to the lab supervisor to alter or deviate from the set schedule.
5. Lab assistants are not rehired automatically; they are subject to a review process at the end of each semester.
Duties
Lab Staff:
1. Shall enforce and abide by all computer lab policie and any other rules set forth by the English, Spanish, Communications and Humanities Department.
2. Shall be VISIBLE and available to help students and faculty as needed with computer applications and department course assignments.
3. Shall be on time, reliable, helpful, and pleasant to all lab users and employees.
4. Shall tutor students in computers applications and department course assignments which they are qualified to tutor.
5. Shall inform the supervisor, giving him/her adequate notice of work schedule changes.
6. Shall not allow students to use lab phones for personal calls, nor use lab phones themselves for other than work associated or emergency purposes.
7. Shall learn procedures for Perfect Copy, Microsoft Office 2007, Internet Search, and other lab applications programs.
8. Shall straighten chairs and desks and remove any scrap paper or other garbage from the lab whenever feasible.
9. Shall turn on/off computers at appropriate times of the school day, change toner cartridge in the printer when necessary, add paper to the printer when necessary, report faulty units to the lab managers, and call the computer technician for maintenance if instructed. Qualified technicians may perform maintenance in the computer box if authorized. Priority on working on machines is set by the lab manager (faculty/student needs take precedence over working on machines).
10. Shall not give, misdirect or attempt any procedures he/she does not have knowledge or capability of doing or effecting (possible disastrous results destroyed student work, loss of important data, etc.).
11. Shall inform supervisors that he/she has difficulties or is incapable of executing a task or duty that a faculty member or student has requested (Perfect Copy, Dos Mundos, Web Ct/Blackboard, essay revision, Internet search, a computer applications, etc.).
12. Shall dust off computers and lab equipment and maintain a clean, professional work area at all times when the lab is not in use or usage is minimal.
13. Shall give and monitor make up tests, a picture ID is required.
14. Shall make sure instructional test and computer material are secured as directed by instructors or lab managers.
15. Shall not bring or allow students to bring food or beverage into the lab.
